Comment: Common throughout the year but peaking in late Summer and Autumn, it is found in broadleaf woodland commonly on Ash. Usually found high up the tree and come Autumn time the dead fruiting bodies appear black and can be found on the ground
Effect: Enters through wounds on the branches and trunk and decomposes the heartwood
Recommendation: Tree should be evaluated.
Intereting facts: The Shaggy Bracket changes colour with age, the fruitbody initially has an ochre-brown upper surface that becomes cigar-brown and finally black in old specimens.
