Latin name: Inonotus radiatus
Fruiting bodies: June - September
Area of infection: Trunk
Wood decomposition: White rot

Comment: Mostly confined to Alder but can occaisonally be found on Birch.
Effect: Enters the tree through trunk/branches injuries and decomposes heartwood
Recommendation: Tree should be evaluated.
Intereting facts: Since many alder tree diseases are caused by excess moisture, alders should never be planted in locations vulnerable to flooding.
